The spore-producing surface of all five families (Ceraobasidiaceae, Clavulinaceae, Tulasnellaceae, Botryobasidiaceae and the Hydnaceae) in the Cantharellales order are typically smooth, although there are also toothed and pored representatives. None of them produce a gilled hymenium. Most species in the Cantharellales have a mycorrhizal relationship with plants. A few are parasites. Resupinate species appear to largely be saprotrophs. Below we have examples of fungi from three of its four families.
