Cantharellus lateritius

Excellent eating. Sweet ‘apricot’ odor. Some think it is not quite as flavorful as C. cibarius.

Ectomycorrhizal with hardwood trees (esp. oaks). Soil dwelling bright egg-yoke funnel-shaped yellow fruiting body. Its decurrent hymenium smoother than Cantharellus cibarius and the fruiting body is thicker as is the stem. Appears in summer and fall.
