Lentinellus ursinus 0124

Members of this genus have jagged or toothed gill edges. They typically grow on decayed or buried wood.  One common vase-shaped species that fruits on the ground in wood debris has descending gills. The hairy-capped one pictured above, is stipeless and extremely bitter-tasting. All have a white spore-print. Depending on the species, they may appear between July and November. The species in the photo tends to fruit from August through November.
