Mushrooms in this genus often grow clustered. They have attached grayish to yellowish to greenish gills which turn purplish-brown as the spores mature. The partial veil may leave a cob-webby fibrous zone on the upper stipe. These are autumn mushrooms that grow in wood chips, on grass and on the ground.
