Many, though not all, members of this genus generally have somewhat descending crowded gills and a bulbous base. (This particular mushroom has attached, notched gills). Depending on the species, their spores can vary from white to pinkish-buff. They can be found mostly in the autumn months fruiting on the ground in open woods and along paths.
