Most members of this genus have a yellow to yellow-brown scaly cap with dark hairs at the center, attached to slightly decurrent gills and a persistent ring. They can be found growing in clusters on dead wood, at the base of trees and from shoestring-like rhizomorphs between September and October. They have a white spore-print.
