The  ‘Death Cap’ is a European mushroom which was introduced to the US by at least the 1970‘s with its associated trees (Norway Spruce). It is now on many continents including Australia, parts of Africa and South America. The caps are greenish-yellow. Gills and veil are white with hints of yellow-green.  It smells faintly sweet to cloyingly sickly sweet. The majority of fatalities (90%) are due to mushroom poisoning are a result of consumption of this mushroom. It apparently looks similar to straw mushrooms and out west is confused with them by Asian collectors. Recent Syrian deaths of refugees searching for edibles in Germany. Eating just a half of a cap can result in death.
