Gymnopus dryophilus (Bull.) Murrill (Collybia dryophila)
Saprotrophic in mixed or hardwood and conifer woods. Grows singly or in small groups on ground. Slippery to greasy damp tawny brown cap. Margin is initially incurved, but flattens or becomes wavy with age. Close, white attached gills. White spore print. Stipe whitish near apex, buff to darker below with white rhizomorphs at base. Stem becomes hollow with age. Collybia jelly, Syzygospora mycetophila, infects this species. It is in the Omphalotaceae family in the Agaricales order.
