Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca 'False Chanterelle'
Velvety yellow-orange fruitbodies, with caps that become vase-shaped, narrow, bright orange forked gills. Probably saprotrophic (although in the Boletales, which are mostly mycorrhizal). This is in the Hygrophoropsidaceae family of the Boletales order.
Some authors describe it as edible, but of poor flavor, others say it is poisonous. Some who have eaten it have had digestive upsets. It is eaten in Mexico after grilling over charcoal or boiling. Called “Iguana lard”.
