Bitter Autumn Like the Brick-top, it is saprobic and is found clustered on wood and wood chips of hardwoods and conifers at the same time of year - fall after it has turned cold. It has yellow-green close gills, and a purple-brown spore-print. These have an extremely bitter taste and are known to be poisonous. Eating them will cause diarrhea, vomiting and convulsions. In Japan, several deaths are reported to be attributed to consumption of these mushrooms. 037-001
