 Lactifluus gerardii (Lactarius gerardii) has a dry, somewhat velvety, WRINKLED brownish cap. In one variety its latex  is white and unchanging. In another the latex turns pinkish-brown over time. The white gills are well-spaced. It is found in both deciduous and coniferous woods.  Edible. It is easily confused with Lactarius lignyotus.
