Amanita russuloides has a strongly bumpy, striate pileus edge. Cap pale straw yellow with scattered whitish warts and a somewhat darker center. Unlike Amanita velatipes, the partial veil is fragile and is easily removed. At base of stipe is a small basal bulb, often rimmed. Mycorrhizal with oaks and conifers.
