Russula amoenolens is in the foetid russula group. It has a brownish viscid cap with a darker center, a bumpy, striate margin and a bitter taste.  Its odor is initially reminiscent of maraschino cherries or almonds, but later turns unpleasant. It can be found with both hardwoods and conifers.
