Agaricus placomyces

The cap center has brownish scaling. Yellowish to brownish droplets develop on underside of the annulus. Persistent ring. Bruises yellow at base. Saprobic. Yellow KOH reaction. Phenolic or no odor.  Until ealrly in the twentieth century, it was considered a choice edible. The someone wrote that it was toxic and writers of field guides have repeated this view. But lately there are some people who state they have been eating it for years without ill effect. The only known deadly agaricus grows in Africa, Agaricus aurantioviolaceus.  031
