This Fungi Kingdom course on Lactarius has been updated by me to account for recent DNA research showing that Lactarius is not a monophyletic genus. Closely related to Lactarius are two additional genera: Lactifluus and Multifurca. Most species of Lactifluus are tropical and include pleurotoid species that are saprotrophic and grow on wood.
