Rhodocollybia lentinoides is rather easy to confuse with Gymnopus dryophilus (Collybia dryophila) and Rhodocollybia butyracea. The cap and stem colors are similar, but the gills of Rhodocollybia lentinoides are saw-toothed and the stem is slightly club-shapped and has a tendency to split (see last photo). Like Rhodocollybia butyracea, it grows with conifers.
