Lactarius maculatus Peck

Lactarius maculatus Peck 4

Lactarius maculatus has a viscid, gray-buff to pale violet-gray vase-shaped cap with a central depression and which shows a pattern of concentric pink-lavender spotted zones when fully mature.  It has close, thin, subdecurrent off-white to cream gills, some of which are forked. The latex is white, but stains the gills a pinkish-lavender. The short stem is concolorous to somewhat paler than the cap and exhibits the same spotted appearance.
