MYXOGASTRIA (Slime Molds)

Slime molds are not fungi. They are in their own kingdom, the Protista. However, in the past when the myxogastria (formerly known as myxomycetes) were thought to be fungi, they were studied by field mycologists and amateurs alike. Knowing now that they are not fungi, doesn’t make them any less interesting. Hopefully we will all continue to study, experiment with and appreciate these unique life forms that can frequently be observed on the same substrates where fungi are found.
