Paxillus vernalis Watling 1969
Paxillus vernalis is found in northern montane regions of N.A. It resembles Paxillus involutus, but has a thicker stipe, and the cap and the gills can be more reddish-brown. Spore print brown to wine-red. Also, it grows with paper birch and quaking aspen.
