Laccaria ochropurpurea

Laccaria ochropurpurea

Laccaria ochropurpurea are edible.  They have a firm texture.

Mycorrhizal with hardwoods and conifers. Appear in late summer and autumn in woods. Variable in color and shape, bearing longish stem. Cap can be lavender or tannish. Bright purple gills. Looks a lot like several robust toxic purple corts. Spore print is necessary to be certain it is white and not rust-colored, that it doesn’t have a cobwebby veil.

Choose young specimens, discard any tough or insect-riddled stems. Cook slowly and completely. Purple color disappears. Meaty, but flavorless. Add to stews with other more flavorful mushrooms.
