Lactarius indigo (Schweinitz) Fries 1838
has a zonate, depressed, sticky blue cap, blue gills and a blue stem with circular pits. Cap becomes flat to funnel-shaped and turns silvery with age. Gills are adnate to slightly decurrent, closely spaced and develop a creamy-yellowish cast with age. Latex is bright neon blue, sparse to moderate and turns greenish slowly. All parts staining greenish with handling. Cream to pale yellow-orange spores. In oak/pine woods during summer and autumn. Mild taste, slowly becoming mildly acrid. Edible. This is in the Russulacae family of the Russulales order.
