Saprotroph found attached to dead hardwood (sometimes buried) from mid to late spring through autumn.
Medium to large mushroom. Cap is brown to olive-brown with streaks. White gills are notched. Base is slightly enlarged.
Mild taste, no odor or color change. Enjoyed by insect larvae. Often seen and confused with Pluteus cervinus. It is in the Marasmiaceae fammily of the Agaricales order.
