Panus neostrigosus Drechsler-Santos & Wartchow 2012
(Lentinus strigosus, Panus rudis)
has a densely hairy fan to funnel-shaped brownish cap often with pinkish-purple tinges and decurrent white gills on an off-center stalk. A saprotrophic fungus, it grows from recently dead hardwoods from spring through fall. Edible, although somewhat bitter tasting. It is in the Polyporaceae family of the Polyporales order.
