Scutellinia scutellata (L.) Lambotte 1887
This is commonly called the ‘Eye-lash Cup fungus’. It is one of several similar species that grow in tight groups on rotted, bebarked wood of conifers and broadleaf trees by means of a very short stipe. Brown to black ‘hairs’ project from its marginal rim. The fertile interior of the cup is bright red and quite smooth. The exterior is paler. It is in the Pyrenemacetaceae family of the Pizazales Order of Ascomycetes.
