Marasmus rotula Peck 1872
the ‘Pin Wheel Mushroom’, grows as a saprotrophic fungus from hardwood litter such as sticks and logs. It is white and has a depressed, but flat darker central disc and subdistant gills attached to a collar around the dark, wiry stem that is usually paler at the apex. It can be found from spring through fall. Lookalike Marasmius capillaris grows from leaf litter. It is in the Marasmiaceae family of the Agaricales order.
