The Boletaceae family is in the Boletales order. Most sponge-pored fungi in this and related families were once determined to be in the genus Boletus. Currently, only those fungi genetically related to the type species Boletus edulis are put in this genus. Mycologists are still sorting out the relationships of these fungi to each other. We expect more names to be changed as relationships become clearer through DNA analysis. With a few exceptions, most boletes are ectomycorrhizal with plants. Two genera are putatively mycoparasitic: Buchwaldoboletus lignicola and Chalciporus piperatus. Pseudoboletus parasiticus may also be parasitic.
