Mycena acicula (Schaeffer) P. Kummer

This is one of the smallest mycenas. It has a tiny bell-shaped red cap and a relatively long thin yellow stem. The stipe is covered in a powdery coating, but becomes smooth with maturity. It has white mycelium at its base where it is attached to decaying leaves of the previous year. Mycena acicula is a saprotrophic mushroom that is found on wet leaves from May to September. It is in the Mycenaceae family of the Agaricales.
