Cortinarius scaurus (Fries) Fr. 1838
Convex tacky to viscid dark brown cap that is a paler grayish olive green at the margin. Gills are closely spaced olive-green becoming olive brown. Greenish-yellow cortina that leaves remnants on the margin the bulbous base of the stipe. Spore print is rust-brown. Can be found from August to October under spruce and sometimes with pines. Inedible.
Cortinarius scares is in the Phlegmacium clade.
