Cantharellula umbonata (J.F. Gmel) Singer 'The Grayling'
has a small depressed somewhat hairy gray-brown cap with an upturned margin. Its pale off-white gills are of alternating long and short lengths, and some are occasionally forked. The pale grayish stem is always longer than the cap is wide. When sliced in half from top to base, the flesh bruises pale pinkish-red. Whitish spore print. This edible mushroom is always found with Polytrichum moss in late summer and autumn.
It is in the Tricholomataceae family of the Agaricales order.
