Excellent eating.
Sweet ‘apricot’ odor. Some think it is not quite as flavorful as chanterelles previously called Cantharellus cibarius - which in many cases is probably Cantharellus flavus.
Ectomycorrhizal with hardwood trees (esp.
oaks). Soil dwelling bright egg-yoke funnel-shaped yellow fruiting body. Its decurrent
hymenium smoother than Cantharellus cibarius and the fruiting body is thicker as
is the stem. Appears in summer and fall. It is in the Hydnaceae family of the Cantharellales order.
