Lactarius affinis var. affinis Peck 1872
Smooth, viscid, light cinnamon-pink cap, gills and stem. Sticky when fresh, later glabrous. Cap margin is initially invoute and paler. Depressed at slightly darker disc. Gills are close, broad and barely decurrent. White latex is unchanging and does not stain. Stem is smooth, sticky when young, and white to buff-brown. Found associated with conifers and hardwoods. Edibility is not known, but its noted acrid taste will hopefully deter foragers from eating it. This is in the Russulacae family of the Russulales order.
