Coprinellus disseminatus (Coprinus disseminatus) (pers.) J.E. Lange (1938)
The saprotrophic Coprinellus disseminatus fruits gregariously in wood chips and at the base of dead trees throughout the growing season (spring through fall). It has a rather small white ovoid cap that expands to a bell-shape or beyond and darkens to grayish-brown in the process. The central disc is darker than the rest of the lined cap and the margin is paler. While its spore print is blackish, unlike other coprinoid mushrooms, its gills are initially white before blackening and do not deliquesce - turn into a black inky mess. The stipe is white and hollow. It is in the Psathyrellaceae family of the Agaricales order.
