Amanita sinicoflava can be easily mistaken for an Amanita fulva (group). It has an olive-yellow to olive-tan cap, often with a slightly darker central umbo and a deeply striate margin. Volval warts on the pileus are whitish to grayish. The stem bears fibrils, but has no ring. The basal material is saccate and grayish at the top, becoming darker from the top downward with age.
