Marasmius cohaerens (Persoon) Cooke and Quelet 1887
has a brownish-yellow to brownish-red cap and a long stem which initially is pale yellow-brown, but becomes darker from the base upward as it matures. The gills are attached, moderately-spaced and pale brown. The spores are white. It grows in tight clusters on leaf litter from the start of summer through autumn. Its white basal mycelium is extensive. It is in the Marasmiaceae family of the Agaricales order.
Marasmius cohaerens var. lachnophyllus differs in growing on wood and having more closely-spaced gills.
