USTILIAGINALES Order

The Ustilaginales (G. Winter) Bauer & Oberwinkler (1997) is a basidiomycota order that includes aggressive pathogenic plant fungi especially of cereal grasses called smuts. The order contains eight families, 49 genera and 851 species. One species in particular in the Ustilaginaceae family is well-known to mycophiles: Ustilago maydis or corn smut.
