Cortinarius bolaris

Cortinarius bolaris2958

Cortinarius bolaris (Pers.) Fries 1838

A small and colorful cort, Cortinarius bolaris has a convex to somewhat wavy yellowish to reddish-orange cap covered in fibrillose squamules. Its cream colored gills become rust-colored with age, as does its whitish cortina. It grows gregariously in mixed forests in late summer and early fall. Not for the table as this beauty is toxic.

This is in the Cortinarius family of the Agaricales order.
