Astreus morganii (Phosri, Watling & P.M. Martin 2013) is called the North American ‘Barometer Earthstar’. The name Astreas hogrometricus is used now for the European version of this earthstar. When it is about to rain, its arms open outward and push the central peridium upwards to enable its spores to waft away when hit by raindrops. It is in the Diplocystidiaceae family of the Boletales order.
