Lactarius subplinthogalus Coker 1918
Small or medium sized whitish convex, smooth cap becoming darker brownish-yellow, slightly wrinkled and funnel-shaped with depressed center and a notable plicate to scalloped margin. Gills are creamy becoming darker, broad, somewhat distant, attached to decurrent. Stem is long, paler color of cap, smooth, dry and becomes hollow. White latex is unchanging, but stains and dries gills salmon-pink. Spore print is cream-buff. Found in mixed woods under oaks and pines. Taste is usually acrid. Can be confused with Lactifluus subvernalis var. cokeri.
