Cortinarius limoneus

This mushroom is in the section Leprocybe and among several corts in the poisonous Orellani group. It has a yellow-orange to cinnamon cap; yellow cortina, attached yellow-orange gills becoming rusty-brown, ochre-yellow-brown scurfy stipe. It is found in mossy habitats and is a conifer (balsam fir, red spruce) and possibly birch associate. Can be confused with the less yellow, scalier capped Cortinarius rubellusCortinarius limonius has an unpleasant odor. Cortinarius rubellus has a pleasant smell. This is in the Cortinariceae family of the Agaricales order.
