Parasola plicatilis

Parasola plicatilis (Curtis) Redhead, Vigalys & Hopple

Parasola plicatilis may be the most delicate and fragile appearing of the coprinoid Japanese Umbrella Mushrooms'. The free gills are initially white but gradually turn black as the spores mature. The stipe of Parasola plicatilis differs from its close relatives in having a fibrillose rather than a perfectly smooth texture. Like other coprinoid fungi, the stem is hollow. It is in the Psathyrellaceae family of the Agaricales order.
